A rainy evening didn’t dampen the spirits of the Beavers, Cubs and Scouts of First Luton Sea Scouts on Friday 15th March at their Red Nose Day Scout-athon Challenge event. 72 children and their leaders pulled together to raise a staggering £1400.65 (including gift aid) for Comic Relief by taking part in a series of sponsored challenges that tested their mental and physical capabilities.
Challenges at their Bowling Green Lane Head Quarters ranged from, finding out just how many cream crackers a person could eat in 2 minutes without water, to how close they could get the stone to the target on an indoor kurling kit! There were 12 different challenges and something for all. Each team was made up of a mixture of Beavers, Cubs and Scouts, fostering team spirit and showing how collaboration can achieve a great deal.
The night was a great success and resulted in the whole group not only raising funds for a good cause, but also being awarded a very special Scouting Community Badge called the County Falcon Challenge Badge for their fundraising efforts.
Group Scout Leader, Jo Merrick said, “It was a fabulous night where fun was had by all. It was a perfect example of how team work and pulling together of different ages and capabilities can achieve great things. I am very proud of everyone at First Luton Sea Scouts”.
A really big thank you to all those who sponsored the children for their activities, we were honestly staggered at how much money was raised by them all. Hopefully we’ll have a nice certificate from Red Nose Day to display in the hut for all the children to see.
