District Swimming Gala

First Luton were out in force on Saturday to represent the group at the annual district swimming gala. We had swimmers in the Beavers, Cubs and Scouts categories and all of the attendees did First Luton proud with their team spirit and swimming ability.

The 3 Beavers who attended came a very respectable 4th place overall in their category and were very proud to have come runners up in the Beavers team relay. It seems their swimming sessions at Denbigh and their participation in the swimming stage one badge has really paid off! Well done boys!

The 6 strong Cub team all competed in 3 races each, covering freestyle, back stroke and team relay events. We had some very competitive Cubs who were keen to ensure we got the maximum amount of points available for partaking even if some of them were not so keen on the backstroke event. This team effort by all resulted in the Cubs taking second place over all for the Cubs section of the swimming gala and just showed what can be achieved when you pull together to make the most of everybody’s abilities.

The Scouts were there to defend their title, having won the Scouts section of the gala for the last 2 years. The 12 Scouts that attended didn’t disappoint and were all raring to go to show just how good they are at swimming-pretty good skill to have being a Sea Scout! All the Scouts were great ambassadors for Scouting and really supported each other and the other sections during the competition. There was also some epic swims put in by some individuals which I’m sure the Scout Leaders have made a note of….watch out for some badge suggestions!

There was an anxious wait while all the scores were totalled and a great cheer when First Luton Scouts were announced as the winners of their section. The cheer was only eclipsed by the bigger cheer as the overall winning group-combining the scores of the Beavers, Cubs and Scouts was announced as….FIRST LUTON!

A great day was had by all and I know that the Leaders are very proud of all who took part. Congratulations to all, let’s make it a winning 4th year in a row in 2013!
